WILD & CRAFT SAFE SPACE POLICY
What started as a nice opportunity to start a girl gang has grown into something more powerful than we could have ever imagined. We recognized the need for sober, free hangouts for women and those with marginalised gender identities, but over time it has evolved into a very particular safe space for vulnerable people to heal and connect with each other. In order to keep this a supportive safe space, we have to have rules, so we ask participants to read this document and if you agree with everything then this is the space for you!
Wild & Kind ‘Wild & Craft' events are a space for those who may:
Suffer from anxiety
Struggle with social situation
Struggle with making new friends
Are experiencing isolation
We also welcome those who are understanding and supportive of these issues and would like to help create a safe and welcoming environment for those who need it. If you are unsure whether this space is for you, then please just get in touch for a chat beforehand.
We ask attendees to be respectful of other people’s feelings, and we will not accept behavior or language that is discriminatory, intimidating or derogatory in any way. Something you may find funny, or a joke, others may find deeply upsetting so we ask attendees to be mindful of their actions, and not to discuss topics that may cause offense, be triggering or cause emotional harm. We value the safety of our attendees over everything.
We ask attendees to be respectful of other people's work at the events, and be self aware and mindful of other people’s personal space. You must also treat the space, materials and equipment with care. We do not receive additional funding to run these events, so we are very protective of the space we have created. We are currently looking into funding to create more events that cater to a wider range/different groups of people.
We are fully accepting of trans and non-binary people. There are many reasons that ‘Non-male’ safe spaces need to exist, and are crucial for people who may have experienced sexual assault, are in toxic or abusive relationships or may experience daily abuse and oppression because of their gender. It’s not to say that men don’t need safe spaces or ‘sober craft hang outs’. We're sure many of them do for a range of reasons. But as an organisation who aims to support and empower women, these events in particular are aimed at those who do not identify as male. If you’d like to start your own events then please do! Get in touch and we’ll tell you everything you need to know to get started! We can only achieve equality when we give marginalised groups the empowerment and tools that they need. If we provide everyone with the same experience then the gap stays the same.
Any complaints about behavior withing the space will be brought up with the party involved and dealt with appropriately. We reserve the right to exclude anyone who does not respect the rules of the space, or who's behavior does not fit in with our ethos.
We also have a no photo rule. You can take and share pictures of yourself or your own craft you have produced on the night but we ask that you do not request photos with anyone to keep it a worry free zone!
Email firstname.lastname@example.org if you have any other questions.
If you want to come along alone, but are anxious about not knowing anyone, then come and stop by the studio before hand and get to know us!
All events are free and materials supplied. NO EXPERIENCE REQUIRED.
